Getting started

  1. Install Mint Vote from the Shopify App Store. The app home shows a short setup checklist.
  2. Add the button: click Add block to product page. The theme editor opens on a product page with the Ask my friends block added; move it under the Add to cart button if you like and click Save. Prefer a floating button? Use Turn on the floating button (an app embed) instead.
  3. Try it: on a product page tap Ask my friends, pick two options, create the poll, then open the link on your phone and vote.
  4. Adjust: in Settings choose how long polls stay open, how many options they can have, whether shoppers can compare variants and other products, your blocked words and every text shoppers see.

How polls work

  • The shopper picks 2 to 4 options: variants of the product they're on (the one selected in your product form comes first), products they viewed earlier in their visit, or products from your store search. They can add a question and a first name.
  • They get a link on your own domain (/apps/vote/…) to send with WhatsApp, Messenger (on phones), SMS, X, their phone's share sheet or by copying it, plus a private results link that only they hold.
  • The vote page is rendered by Shopify inside your theme, with live titles, images and prices from your store. Friends tap once to vote; no sign-up. After voting they see the results and links to each product.
  • The private results page shows the votes and highlights the winner, with links to the products. On Pro and Plus it also has Buy the winner, which adds that variant to the cart with the line property _mint_vote (the poll's ID) and opens your theme's cart.
  • Link previews (WhatsApp, Messages, Facebook/Messenger, X, Slack, Telegram …) show "Help Sam choose: A or B?" with the shopper's question and the first product's image; on Pro and Plus, the poll's products side by side.

Abuse protection

  • Every storefront request is signed by Shopify and checked by our server.
  • Questions and names are checked before a poll is saved: no links, email addresses, @handles or phone numbers, a built-in English word filter, and your own blocked words (any language). You can delete any poll on the Polls page.
  • One vote per device per poll, a few votes at most per connection per poll (households share connections), limits on how many polls and votes one connection, one device and one store can create per hour or day, and at most 500 votes per poll. Friends never type anything.
  • No IP addresses are stored: connections and devices are only kept as one-way hashes that differ in every poll.

Plans

  • Free: up to 10 polls a month (UTC); results with the winner and links to the products; link previews with the first product's image; a small "Powered by Mint Vote" line on the vote page. When the month's polls are used, the button hides until the 1st; existing polls keep working.
  • Pro ($14.99/month, 7-day free trial): up to 300 polls a month, Buy the winner, the combined product image in link previews, no "Powered by" line, custom colours, question suggestions and analytics (polls, votes, page views, product clicks, products compared most).
  • Plus ($29.99/month, 7-day free trial): everything in Pro, unlimited polls (anti-spam limits still apply), the optional single-use thank-you code, and revenue and add-to-cart analytics (add-to-carts, paid orders and revenue from vote links, codes given).
  • Plans are chosen on Shopify's plan page: in the app open Plans → Choose a plan (or Manage plan). Moving to a lower plan never deletes polls or settings: thank-you codes already given stay valid, and the settings of the higher plan come back when you upgrade again. Moving to Free takes effect at the end of the billing cycle you already paid for.

Common questions

The button doesn't show. Check that polls are switched on in Settings, that the product has at least two variants or that "other products" is allowed, and (Free and Pro) that this month's polls aren't used up. Gift cards and subscription-only products don't show the button.

The vote link opens a password page. Your store is password-protected, so only people with the password can open it, and link previews show your password page. Polls work for everyone once the store is open.

I changed the app proxy URL in Shopify. Enter the new path (for example /apps/poll) in Settings → Storefront path.

Does it change checkout or emails? No. Checkout is Shopify's; the thank-you code is a normal Shopify discount code, single use and only for the products in that poll.

Where do I see the thank-you codes? In Shopify Discounts, titled "Mint Vote thank-you · poll …".

Is there a limit on votes? 500 votes per poll, and a few per connection per poll, to keep polls fair and the vote pages safe.
